Cool
Kids For A Cool Climate

The International Children’s
Conference on the Environment
Since 1995 there have been eight conferences held at venues around the world.
Children (aged 10-13) from all over the globe have been able to attend to air
their views on the environment and sustainable development.
At the 2002 ICC held in Victoria, B.C., Canada, delegates presented their projects
and took part in practical workshops on each of the days’ themes: Water;
Climate Change; Resource Conservation and Healthy Communities, Healthy Children.
In small friendship groups the delegates came up with and discussed Challenges for that day’s theme. The Challenges were presented at the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development in September by Justin Friesen and Analiz Vergara. Justin and Analiz were both members of the Junior Board along with ten other delegates, including me. We were involved in the planning of the conference and had a say in issues such as conference greening. The 2004 'Tunza' United Nations Children's Conference on the Environment was held in New London, Connecticut, USA in July 2004. In July 2005 the Children's World Summit for the Environment was held in Aichi, Japan. The 2006 International Children's Conference on the Environment was held in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 26-30 August. The 2008 Tunza
International Children's Conference on the Environment was held in
Stavanger, Norway from 17 - 21 June. |
