Cool Kids For A Cool Climate

Climate Change – Take Action!

Burning fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulphur dioxide (SO2). These contribute to global warming, to acid rain and is pure torture for asthma sufferers. We are producing twice as much carbon dioxide in the world today than the Earth’s plants can convert back into Oxygen by photosynthesis and all this is made worse by deforestation.

The Answer:

We must stop burning fossil fuels, be more energy efficient and use electricity from renewable sources.

Many governments around the world have signed the Kyoto Protocol which commits them to reducing the greenhouse gases that their countries produce. Some countries have not signed up though, including the USA the biggest polluter in the world. The reductions agreed at Kyoto are not enough to stop climate change. This is too big a problem to leave to governments to sort out, we must all take responsibility for the pollution we are causing and find ways of reducing it.

It is not always easy to stop burning fossil fuels, but if we are damaging the environment we must put something back. By planting trees we can help nature soak up that extra carbon dioxide pollution in the atmosphere

One of the biggest sources of greenhouse gas emissions is travel. It is something that we have a choice over. Whether to walk, cycle, take the car, train, bus or the plane (or stay at home).

What Pollution do your travel choices create?

How can you reduce the greenhouse gases you produce at home?
